Access available to ITB & ITT Libraries for DIT staff & students

DIT staff and students can now visit the libraries at  ITB (Institute of Technology Blanchardstown) and ITT (Institute of Technology Tallaght) by simply producing their DIT ID cards. No letter of introduction is required. They may visit the libraries and use the print materials there for reference purposes. Use the links above to see the library collections and opening hours.

Books cannot be borrowed and three libraries may have to refuse admission during busy times e.g. during exams. In return, ITB and ITT staff and students can visit DIT libraries.

DIT visitors to ITT and ITB can still access DIT Library eJournals, databases and eBooks using the Eduroam service on their own mobile device or laptop whilst using the other libraries. For more information on connecting to Eduroam as a DIT staff or student see:

The increased access is a pilot and will be kept under review.

Webicinia

Webicina is a free service that provides curated medical social media resources in over 80 medical topics in over 17 languages for medical professsionals and students. An webicina app is available for smartphone use. A selection of social media resources in medical and biomedical specialties are provided such as:

Web of Knowledge enhancements

The latest enhancements and  features for the Web of Knowledge database can be viewed on their Facebook page  or view a short video summary.  A new WoK FAQ facility is also available and a mobile app.

Web of Knowledge goes mobile

You can access Web of Knowledge  at any time : link to the mobile device at http://m.webofknowledge.com/

To use Anywhere/Anytime Access, you must have a Web of Knowledge username and password. To set one up follow the steps below:

1. Go to http://www.webofknowledge.com/ from an IP authenticated computer.
2. Click Sign In along the top navigation
3. Click Register to create a new account You will be asked to enter your email address to verify that an account does not already exist for you.
4. If an account does not already exist, you will be prompted to fill in the User Registration page.
5. After the username and password you have entered is verified, it will become active.

RSC app for Chemists

The new free RSC Mobile app for iOS (iPad, iPhone and iPod) is available on iTunes. To access RSC Publishing resources app click here. RSC app for android is due in early 2012

DIT Library app

A new DIT Library app 'Library Anywhere' is now available. Click here to use the app. Access your library account, use the catalogue, Arrow research repository and ejournals all from your smartphone.

NLM apps

Hot on the heels of other information providers the National Library of Medicine is now providing a selection of apps and mobile website links for those who like to research on the move or use an iPad. Have a look at their range of mobile technology services if it's the kind of thing that works for you. Resources covered include DailyMed, PubMed and Medline Mobile amongst others.

Need full-text but not at your desk? The SciVerse ScienceDirect database iPhone app doesn't restrict your brainwaves to the workplace; now you can find and read your subscribed Elsevier article on the move.

ChemSpider App

ChemSpider Mobile

A free iOS app (iPhone, iPod, iPad) for searching ChemSpider the free online chemical database is now available at  http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/chemspider/id458878661

So why use it?

*  Provides the ability to search by drawing a chemical structure or entering a compound name.

* Straightforward and easy to use.

* Search results shown in a list showing structures and names.

* Any search result can be examined in more detail by launching the mobile browser and viewing the structure on the ChemSpider web page.

Free access to Cambridge eJournals

All Cambridge eJournals for 2009 and 2010 are free to access until 30th August.

To access simply visit journals.cambridge.org or click here and browse by subject or title.

Mobile access is also available via CJOm.

Research on the move....

To make life a little bit easier Academic Search Premier and other Ebsco hosted databases are now available as iPhone and iPod touch applications for use on the go outside DIT library. To get the app click into the Academic Search Premier database on the DIT Library website as usual and then find the link at the end of the Ebsco frontpage. Other databases available to search, find fulltext  and save articles are Business Search Premier and UK/Ireland Reference Centre. Tried and tested by this blogger - this works! The android app is in development....
