Scifinder database reminder

SciFinder

SciFinder has recently been acquired under the auspices of IReL (Irish Research Electronic Library). This is the first additional online resource to become available to DIT staff and students since we joined the nationally funded research library initiative earlier this year
.
SciFinder provides access to the Chemical Abstracts Services (CAS) collection of indexed literature back to1907. It provides useful information that have a chemical structure at their core. In addition to the references and abstracts found in Chemical Abstracts (1907-Present), SciFinder's comprehensive content includes information on substances, patents, experimental and predicted properties, and spectra.

This  provides academics and students in the chemical and pharmaceutical sciences with a valuable new resource

Details for registering and using the database are available on the Library A-Z listing of databases - https://www.dit.ie/library/database

Making sense of chemical stories and myths

http://www.senseaboutscience.org/data/files/resources/154/MakingSenseofChemicalStories2.pdfLeading scientists, toxicologists and dieticians debunk common chemical myths in a new edition of this guide published by Sense About Science with support from the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC).

The guide flags up the more serious misconceptions that exist around chemicals and chemistry in relation to health and the environment. It suggests some straightforward ways for people to evaluate them in a non-alarmist way.

For more info, posters and coverage that is well worth a look see this link.
