Organic Chemistry: popular links

Here are the most popular posts from James Ashenhurst's Master Organic Chemistry blog over the past year. Most of them are pretty self-explanatory - hope you find something useful.

Science apps n more

Couple of useful apps from Science Direct that crossed the desk this morning:

AcroMine automatically recognises biomedical acronyms and provides their expanded forms (definitions) - and vice versa. AcroMine is based on an acronym dictionary automatically built from MEDLINE. It can also be used to search for variant expansions of an acronym.

The Protein Interaction Browser visualizes the protein interactions that are reported in the Structured Summaries of the online articles of the Elsevier FEBS Letters journal. The proteins whose interactions are described in the article are drawn as blue nodes connected by yellow edges and displayed in relation to the global interactome.

Biblimed : Medline interface app

- Autocompletion & Suggestions: biomedical keywords (MeSH terms, synonyms and substances).
- Query refinement: search by subheading (therapeutic use, adverse effects)
- Many filters: publication types, subjects, clinical & genetics
- Easy export & History: PubMed, Zotero etc.
- Contextual links: related articles & books, clinical trials,  Entrez cross-database, MedlinePlus

    Research beyond Google

Research Beyond Google: 119 Authoritative, Invisible, and Comprehensive Resources is a collection of deep web resources that go beyond the surface web results found on Google. Google, currently the largest search engine has approx 50 billion web pages indexed, but it can only index the visible web, aka the searchable web. But the invisible web (or deep web) is estimated to be 500 times bigger than the searchable web and consists of atabases and results of specialty search engines that the more popular search engines are unable to index. Compiled by the OEDB, some of these listed research resources may be familiar already via the DIT Library website, but have a look and see what else might work for you.
