British Library Digital Rights Management Software Update

The British Library now send electronic delivery articles via Digital rights management software called DRM Lite. The old FileOpen encryption option is being withdrawn on June 1st 2018. This means that library patrons need to do the following in order to read any electronic documents sent by the British Library:

1.      Have Adobe Reader 10 or above installed on their device.

2.      Register for a British Library On Demand account.  The instructions for this will pop up when they click on the article link, if they are using the service for the first time since the switch from FileOpen to DRM Lite.

3.      Use numbers and letters, not an email address, as an On Demand username.

4.      Allow at least 5 minutes before they attempt to download a document, once they have activated their On Demand registration. As it takes the British Library a few minutes to complete the registration.

5.      Use an internet browser other than Google Chrome to view the article.  If they are using Google Chrome, then the must disable the pdf viewer that comes with Chrome.
