Welcome back to the new semester. Here are the answers to some Frequently Asked Questions of library services.

How do I borrow a book?

You will need to be a registered student and have a valid student card. Your student card is your library card. Bring the books or other material you would like to borrow to the library desk. We will scan your card and issue the items to you.

How many items may I borrow and for how long?

The lending periods for items borrowed from the library are as follows:
  • Undergraduates: 6 items for 14 days
  • Undergraduate part-time: 6 items for 14 days
  • Postgraduates (taught): 10 items for 28 days
  • Postgraduates (research): 10 items for 90 days
  • Postgraduate: part-time: 10 items for 28 days
  • External readers: 2 items for 14 days

Can i renew a book I have borrowed?

Yes, as long as no one has placed a hold on the book you can extend the period of the loan. Books may be renewed once only. To renew a book log in to your MyLibrary Account on the library homepage, dit.ie/library, using your student number and library PIN . Click on the renew all button and your loan(s) will be renewed.

Can i keep track of items I have borrowed?

Yes. The best way to do this is to set up your own library account. To do this you simply need your student number and a PIN of your choice. Go to the library homepage (dit.ie/library) and click on login to MyLibrary Account. Type in your student/staff number in the field provided. Leave the enter your PIN field blank and click submit. At the next screen create your own PIN by typing in a four digit number of your choice.Your library account will enable you to see what items you have borrowed and when they are due to be returned. You can also renew items as explained above.

How do I search for a book,a journal or other resources?

Your first port of call should be the OPAC or library catalogue.. Using the drop down menu you can search for items held in the library by title, subject, author and using keywords. You will also see that the catalogue links to eResources like ejournals, ebooks and databases. You will also find past exam papers and a link to your MyLibrary Account. There is also a link to common Help topics.

How do I find out more?

We are always available at the library desk to answer your questions. Email us (kst.library@dit.ie) or phone us at 01-4024894. Finally, have a look at the A-Z pages. They detail the full range of library services available to you. Getting started short videos are at
